Hi all. I would like some advice please.
We had a brand new carpet fitted in November and the fitters advised me that there were 2 "creases" in it and that they would disappear after a few weeks.

Well it's January and they are no better at all. I bought the carpet from our local carpet shop. I have had the shop's manager out to have a look and he is not happy and thinks that it looks more like a fault in the carpet.

The lines are surely too close together to be creases from a flattened roll (about 30cm apart).

The shop has contacted the manufacturer and after a 3 week wait came back and offered us £150 discount on the carpet. Now the carpet cost nearly £1000 so to me that is an insult. The shop has refused the offer on our behalf and we are waiting (3 weeks again so far) for the manufacturer to come back again.

As far as I'm concerned, the carpet is seriously flawed. The lines run across the middle of our lounge so are very noticeable. If they aren't going to replace the carpet I would only accept a 50% refund of the cost.

What do you guys think of the lines - do they look like a fault? Could it be a carpet fitter issue? The fitters didn't seem to crease it while fitting it.

Any advice on what to do or expect in a case like this appreciated.

Its def looks like a fault line
The lines are too straight and 'in lin' with each other to be a crease or anything else tbh
Deffo a refund or replacement in order
More likely to be a replacement
In all honesty the fitter really shouldve known this was a flaw at the time of installation. (unless they havnt been in the game that long?)

from my personal 21+yrs as a floor layer ;)

Yes looks like a fault perhaps where the weaving process has joined two lengths of backing. Any chance of lifting the corner between the chair and fireplace to look at the backing, might confirm it's a manufacturing fault.

Thanks for your replies guys :)
Confirms what the shop manager said then. We have used this shop a few times before and had no issues. I have no idea if the fitters are new or not. The shop has been around years and years.

I could lift up that edge of carpet but I'll have to check with the boss first (wife :D). Ill post a photo if I do. I'm going to chase up the carpet shop to see if we can hurry the whole thing along. Thankfully we have only paid half of the money for the carpet so far.

at least the shops backing you,i call that very good service.
mind you they may change there tune if its them who coughs up the refitting costs ;)

Just thought I'd update you on the outcome of this. After a lot of back and forth between myself, the shop and the manufacturer and me refusing several offers, we are now getting a brand new carpet refitted for free. We were considering getting the exact same carpet for our landings and stairs (2 flights as we are in a town house). I put it to them that we could use the faulty carpet for the stairs and landings and after lots of haggling they are letting us keep the carpet for just £180. It was going to cost us at least another £600 otherwise so a great result in the end and well worth the constant haggling.
