OK, the pipework is pretty much like this...

I can confirm there are no air release vents on the pipework, either manual or otherwise.

The engineer is coming back out tomorrow evening for another look at the system so hopefully can shed a bit more light.

Did you get to the bottom of this? I'm having similar problems.

It seems I have an air lock after draining down which will not budge.
