New Covid rules for the UK coming into effect for...

We'll never know the true figures of how many died FROM Covid-19, but I suspect it to be much lower than the official figure for several reasons.

Hospital admissions have stagnated since July with no notable increases yet. Of those in hospital with it, they tell us the majority are unvaccinated people so we're looking at maybe 6,000 to 8,000 unvaccinated people in hospital with Covid nationally (and remember, Covid may not be the reason they entered in the first place!)

The official figures are taken directly from death certificates which are certified by doctors following strict rules. Do you think the doctors were just wrong or, perhaps, lying?

And I suspect it to be much higher.

Excess deaths were at their highest in the early months, when infected patients were sent into care homes, PPE was scarce, and there was no adequate testing.

I am guessing you didn't know anybody who died in early 2020, and therefore did not have the personal experience of calling round to try to find an undertaker, or a coffin, or a crematorium that could make a booking, as demand exceeded supply.

I reckon that Boris has pulled a blinder.

Got Sturgeon and the Welsh bloke whose name no-one ever remembers, to rush in to imposing restrictions (to beat those damn English to it), only for Omicron to be found less of a problem.

...and ultimately, neither of us will probably ever know as the measure is too vague. It would be stupid to deny that Covid is a virus which kills just like several other seasonal viruses do. However, there is a great deal of artificial and natural immunity to it in the general population now, and I do not think we should continue the cycle of shutting down and opening up society. Cancelling/postponing malignant disease treatment, making vast tracks of our workforces stay at home and stifling the economy should now be considered more damaging than Covid itself, and I know that is a view shared by all of the NHS District Nurses I know including my fiance. The Covid experience of early 2020 is quite different to our present situation given the hindsight, evolution and knowledge we now possess.

Your (sorry, but frankly ignorant) guess is way off the mark, John.

Taken from the covid surveillance report week 51.
The vaccination status of cases, inpatients and deaths should not be used to assess vaccine effectiveness because of differences in risk, behaviour and testing in the vaccinated and unvaccinated populations. The case rates in the vaccinated and unvaccinated populations are crude rates that do not take into account underlying statistical biases in the data.

--------------------------------------------
Misleading quote selection. You need to read more; P41:
" Comparing case rates among vaccinated and unvaccinated populations should not be used to estimate vaccine effectiveness
against COVID-19 infection. Vaccine effectiveness has been formally estimated from a number of different sources and is
summarised on pages 5 to 15 in this report.
"

Barred.

Old news, previous reports said the same thing.

My ex-MP solving a problem:

"Tory MP Tobias Ellwood calls for people to get 'jabbed' in order to avoid mandatory vaccination."

Duh! That'll persuade them.

Brave NHS GP speaking out against the nonsense:

At about 1:04 she states that the jab can only protect the person taking it.

She's wrong, if we believe what we're told.
*Fully vaccinated people are significantly less likely to pass the disease on.
That lowers the "R" number,
which reduces the wave, and the pandemic overall.

If that* is true then she's exposing her patients - or the community if she's working remotely - to greater risk, given that some will not be as lucky as her with their symptoms.
Then some person she exposes is possibly going to add to the stress of the NHS, which pushes someone else's treatment back, etc.

Well, stands to reason dunnit?
If they get the vaccine they don't have to be told to get the vaccine. So they're infinitely better off.o_O

.-.-.

It's not a clear-cut issue though. We allow motorbikes, which cause people to be a load on the NHS. Also smoking, alcohol etc etc etc.
