I was thinking along those line too. My main concern was getting the hanger at the right height, ie not touching the top of my downstairs ceiling and the same height as my other joists. So I think the timber hangers may be better suited.....
With regards the original ceiling joists that are staying in place, ceiling hangers have been removed so would these ceiling joists need to be secured to the new floor joists? The ceiling joists are 3x2 and span around 3.2m??
one hanger at the mid-point of each ceiling joist (ie splitting the span to 1.6m) would be fine. Just use pieces of 2 x 2 screwed to the sides of the ceiling joists and to the new floor joists.
