I should have mentioned that my reasons for making sure I get it right is because I need building regs to sign off the work done to the kitchen which needed planning permission to start.

When you applied for Building Regulations approval, what did you say would be the way you would ensure compliance with Part P?

What is your council's position on DIY electrical work? Many try to discourage it by getting you to say, or tacitly accept, that the work will be done by a qualified electrician.
