You shouldnt push the connector blocks into the ceiling void

Should be enough room, use the blocks individually, that will help. If the flex's are to short, use 2 lots of blocks, and a length of flex between

This logic seems completely mad, but anyone reading this in the future, for reference if you have a jammed ceiling rose cover, try tightening it first, then loosen......

cheers all done and works fine. i got a new block and just paired up the blacks from the house and connected them to the blue on the light. and paired up the reds and did them to the brown.

Is there another light that is wired to this one - i.e. comes on/goes off together?

yes theres another light in the same room that comes on at the same time.
