Hi All,

I've installed some new spot-lights in my bathroom, hallway and kitchen ("starred" off the exisiting lighting circuit for the original lighting points). I now understand that I should have got an appropriately qualified person to install and issue a cerificate for the bathroom and kitchen lights in particular.

So, what do I do? Get a sparky in to certify/ undertake a PIR? Speak directly with BC? Or ignore as they have been installed for the last 18 months to 2 years and haven't caused a problem yet?

I have broached the subject with a couple of sparkies and they don't seem to be very keen to certify my work (I can understand why).

Reason being is that we are selling our place and just want to make sure everything is okay for the sale and the future purchaser.

Cheers

How confident are you that all the work you have done is up to spec and safe, for example have you used the appropriately rated lights for the areas of the bathroom you have installed.
If you are confident then probably don't worry about it too much and keep schtum.
If you are worried and for your own piece of mind get a sparky in to run a pir by all means

I've never been too sure about this.

If such fittings have been replaced since the introduction of the Part P certification procedure, how would the solicitor/agent prove they were carried out during that time and not prior to Part P?

Thanks for the replies.

I am happy that the correct lights have been used in the bathroom (appropriate IP rating) and I have also used fire rated lights in all areas. So on that basis I feel happy.

Basically, because I am selling I don't want any come-back later on either before the sale completes or after that. I guess if I get the PIR undertaken that should provide some confidence.

When did Part P come into force?

Thanks
