I have to admit that until a year or two ago I was a walking "gay stereotype". Kylie, Steps, S Club etc. I still do listen to that music, and Rachel Stevens new single (So Good) is an excellent example of modern pop music.
However, I also think that the reason I've been into the "mainstream gay" market is because there's been f**k all else worth listening to. I never got into the "britpop" thing and as for Oasis, I think they deserve shooting.
Recently, however, a very welcome turnaround is happening...
I heard a song last year which turned my opinion of music on it's head. It was "In the Shadows" by The Rasmus. Excellent, excellent record.
Since then I have been actively looking out for similar stuff. My top tracks of the last year now include Lost Prophets, Staind, Evanescence, Keane, Franz Ferdinand, Snow Patrol, etc.
I'm hoping that this genre continues to be popular, it's (in my opinion) a good direction for music to be going in....
