I merely pointed out that XP will continue to work forever - which it will just like my (very) old laptop with win 3.1 still does (unlike its now obsolete battery!)
@ everyone above - problem here is everyone replying above has vastly different computer/IT skills.....
there are places on the net where you can obtain XP and every update and service pack and also "learn" how to by-pass activation. Methods vary from BIOS mods (perfectly legal) to outright pirated cracks (not legal)
However a deal of knowledge is required to safely manage this....
similar "help" is available for other operating systems and indeed other programs
Back on topic - a laptop which was supplied with XP is almost certainly nearing the end of its useful life - therefore keep XP until it dies and then go out shopping. But in the meanwhile XP WILL continue to work!
Clearly the usual advice to keep your security software up to date goes without saying
