That may depend on the connections available at the other end of the cable.
For a simple solution, you could consider something like a battery operated Nest Thermostat E?

i have managed to power the thermostat via a wire connected to a plug done by a friend but thye heating seems to be on all time

Is this for the new thermostat? If so, you’ve given it its own power supply, which as per @ianmcd you can’t do that.

It on a a fuse switch when I turn that switch off it power of the whole lot programmer and all

If you turn the switch off,then that’s what it will do, but you said you’ve wired it to a plug?

sorry got it wrong my bad sorry been a long day he wired it into the fuse switch which controlees the programmer etc

so all good now i have got all working now power comes from a fused spure on wall under thermostat which turns off all systems
