New Water Main (Trench for)

Hello All, I'm in the process of digging out a trench for a new water main. it's about 3 metres long & 800 mm deep, which I believe is deep enough.

The problem I'm facing is, where the trench meets the house. It's a smallish house which is divided into two separate flats. I've tried to keep the width of the trench as narrow as possible about 150mm so I don't have to break too many quarry tiles and for access to the house etc.

The problem I'm facing is, where the trench meets the house. Can the new plastic mains pipe, when it's installed, come up a bit on the outside, so I can drill through the foundations to get it in the house? Or does it have to go through into the house at the same depth of the trench, 800 mm? If it is the latter, then I'll have to widen the trench outside

so I can drill through.

Do a web search for INSUduct saves having to dig out inside
Have used them a number of times .

Which side of the door has (can) the pipe got to go? The Insuduct is the way to go, but there wont be sufficient width for it on the right hand side of the door.

I'm more concerned with how deep does the new mains pipe needs to be when it comes in? I don't want to widen the trench if I can avoid it Can it lie in the trench and come up say 300/400 mm and then come in? That way I can drill through the foundation under the front door, easier.

You do not need insuduct, just come up and go through at foundation level, if that small section froze in the frost zone we must be back in the ice age and it would be the least of your problem

And if the Water Co inspect and say it's not to standards, they'll want it correcting before connecting.

I'll have to dig out the void inside anyway as it's nowhere near deep enough. So it definitely has to be at a depth of 750mm when it goes through the foundation in to the house?

To be sure of the Water Inspector passing then I'd err on the side of caution. the 750mm, (3 feet in old money), was for Frost protection, although the weather has changed over the years, the rules haven't.

You can drill at an angle.

Is there a concrete slab under the hall floor? Or just earth?

It's earth for about 6" under the floor in the hall and then about a foot of concrete. RE: Outside trench, as you can see hopefully from the pics, at 750mm depth - there is soft clay layer, so it would be relatively easy to dig through that. It just means making the trench bigger to give me room to work. Something I was hoping to avoid. That's why I started this thread. I wanted to know if I could get the new mains pipe laid in the trench - then when it meets the house, bring it up about 400 mm then drill through the concrete to go in to the building?

That means the new mains pipe would go in about 300mm below the surface. Do you think that would be alright?

I'm dealing with Thames water, and they never answer their phone and take a fortnight to answer emails
