new windows. Trickle vents or not?

Thanks for the pointer. For anyone else reading this thread, I've included the relevant sections of the 2013 Part F Building Regulations for existing buildings:

Section 7: Work on existing buildings

7.3 Where the original windows were fitted with trickle ventilators the replacement windows should include them and they should be sized as set out in paragraph 7.6.

7.6 In all cases where trickle ventilators (or an equivalent means of ventilation) are to be fitted, the new ventilation opening should not be smaller than was origianlly provided, and it should be controllable. Where there was no ventilation opening, or where the size of the original ventilation opening is not known, the following minimum sizes should be adopted.
(I haven't included the sizes as they don't really mean anything to me!).

I would just love to know how these building regulations are enforced :)

I've asked my double glazing supplier/fitter some questions. It will be interesting to hear the answers.

Are there any other building regulations I should be aware of when looking to replace my windows? I assume there is something about U values - another question I have asked the supplier/fitter but they seem to have avoided answering.

They're not, and therein highlights the problem with Fensa and why its a complete joke, even Fensa fitters are blatantly ignoring the reguations or do not understand them.

I'm certass and I certainly don't ignore them
No and fair play to you and the good amongst your industry, my post was maybe a little blasé but you know what I'm saying! (y)

Don't worry, my response was made with tongue firmly planted in cheek! But yes regs need to be followed, the days where only the firm needed to be fensa/certass registered are gone, its now each individual as well so if the 'firm' wanted you to fit something against regs then I'd like to think fitters would refuse as without your MTC card your work is limited

We don't ignore regs either , but here in lies the stupid Fensa Pay as you go scheme , as if BC has enough time to check every window installation.........., especially during inwstallation to check everything is right ...seeing as if registered with Certass etc and have MTC card at least you have to have a little knowledge..........

Just got a response from the supplier/ fitter who says it isn't a legal requirement to have slot trickle ventilation as the windows have a locking night vent facility.
After the third time of asking I haven't received a reply to my question about what the U values of the windows are. I'm beggining to wonder if they are hiding something.
I assume there are minimum U value requirements for replacement windows (haven't had a chance to research). Does the U value apply to the glass unit or the whole window? If the whole window, does this mean each window may have a different U value?

The replacement should achieve a U-value of 1.6 W/m2k for all window frame types and 1.8 W/m2k for doors with more than 50% glazing.

As for trickles, some labc inspectors I've heard will allow night vent in place of trickles although some won't as they say you'll only close them once the inspectors sign it off and leave
