AI and technological changes mean less working people are needed. Is paying people at the top more, and treating working people with **** zero hour contracts and low pay the answer ? Less problems arise when you have skilled man managers and not draconian labour laws to beat people with.

Still am and, yes, t'was ever thus.

I've seen both sides of the coin as an employee and as an employer. Never went sick when I was self employed though. Most self employed people would have to be at deaths door before they stopped work. Some employees would want a week off for a broken fingernail.

It will only encourage people to ring in sick from day one of employment.

The majority of people I’ve employed over the years have been brilliant. The handful of “glass backs” will take the pee now.

Probably, but if it gets people into work it cant be a bad thing. The day one rights against unfair dismissal are balanced by the right to sack within a statutory probation period.
