NHS Contact Tracing App

according to the news 50k download and several people asked if any problems - none. Privacy aspects - ok as doesn't use data on the phone and meets UK's privacy laws. Those are pretty strict even for the people who work in the crime and security areas. Given what they have about anyway I've always thought it was a strange area anyway.

Sir so and so seems to be in touch with another planet. The key to avoiding stupid abuse is when others are notified - we seem to be back to after some one who thinks they have it has been tested and proved to be positive. Just have to hope they can cope with that. No signs of Koreas 2hr turn round time. It seems the machines they use would need modifying.

How many tests for this to work - looks like something like 200k a day may be needed also more test centres. Funny that's going on at the moment - more of both.

As an aside - wonder why the Beeb is showing many other countries using masks. Suspect they are trying to tell us something. Mostly surgical ones too - those blue things.

But Gov should have jumped on covid sooner. There's no doubt about that.
Actually there is doubt about it.When he introduced it,thousands of cases in UK,people still took no notice, some still do not...No point whatsoever in introducing lockdown earlier..The idiots would still break the rules..

Korea managed it. 10k tests initially ramped up to 20k. The difference was that they were prepared to track. China as well but they also severely limited travel out of some areas- gov could have at least asked people to do that. They are also well aware of where the majority of visitors go so more or less knew where problems would start. Just not ready in all sorts of areas sums it all up really but could have done something about spread earlier on as that doesn't need equipment.

;) Anyway sounds like they will be trying to do it the right way this time round but as they are indirectly pointing out current new case counts are still too high. So effectively they have time to sort the tracking out how ever it's done. - Us - best for all with a phones to download the app as it's far more direct than asking people. Just leaves test turn round problems to deal with. From recent announcements they are aiming at 1 day - time to sort that too as R values are still working - somewhat. Korea got it down to 2hrs by processing the RNA from swabs at 60C rather than the usual much lower temperature. That allowed them to test at airports but more recently replaced with quarantines. That seems to be inevitable but airlines are worried about no 2 day /short visits by people wanting to hold meetings etc. I can sympathise with businesses wanting face to face but having sat in meetings with people in the USA without being there it is possible to get used to it. My brother tenders for contracts all over the place - read technical sales. He found it extremely difficult. They tried it for a while. ;) He's like me is so cheesed of with current UK management styles he's just retired. I did that a while ago for the same reason.

It is not difficult

You ever done it? I have on my work phone with a conference phone in the USA. Also with conference phones at both ends. Actually in technical areas I think a lot already goes on. Video conferencing should be easier but going on my brother wasn't.

Just seen on twitter, if true, says it all...

A PRIVATE healthcare firm which employs the prominent Conservative politician Owen Paterson as a paid consultant has been awarded a £133m contract without ANY other firms being given the opportunity to bid for it. UK Dept of Health & Social Care (DHSC) GAVE Randox the contract
There is news about it too

£133 million to make an app that probably won't ever be used, or if it is, will be copied from the apps other countries are already using.

Bye bye tax money.

That firm Randox is based in County Antrim.
They charge £120 for their Covid19 tests, the same tests can be had from the likes of China for fraction of the cost.
Owen Paterson used to be Secretary of State for N. Ireland, that is when his relationship with Randox began probably.

They also kept the % of their population that was infected much lower than others so managed with less testing than the UK had at the start. Tracking did that. App and manual.

Singapore did well - initially. Not so sure now. They one way or the other kept a lot working. Seems to me that they must have had low chances of infection initially. Tracking again,

Tracking again,
Civil liberties,,,not happening anytime soon here.more die,Boris blamed.Ring any bells...Brexit...ballsed up by remoaners.Boris blamed for missing Deadlines..so predictable.

To nobody's surprise, the UK NHS App is not on schedule.

When's "the middle of May?"

I would have thought it was May 15th, last Friday.

"UK admits virus tracing app is at risk of missing deadline

NHS system was due to be rolled out across the country by mid-May after trial on the Isle of Wight"

"The UK government has admitted its coronavirus tracking app may be delayed and could miss the deadline for a nationwide rollout by the middle of May.

The NHS has developed its own app for tracing contacts of those who test positive for coronavirus or are suspected of having the disease, which is currently undergoing trials on the Isle of Wight.

It was due to be rolled out across the rest of the UK by “mid May” but Downing Street said on Monday the technology may not be ready for some weeks.
