NHS Contact Tracing App

He's not the only one saying the NHS app is accurate to 3 feet distance, Apple Google is nowhere near that. That's why they want to incorporate parts of the nhs app into the other.
He says that, but I haven't seen anyone who'd be able to describe how the NHSX version is more accurate. It's still using Bluetooth with all the signal strength and absorption issues built into that.

More information would be interesting

You ain't kidding. My last 20 years was spent on electronics and software. Low level in the software case, more like firmware. I'd love to know more but thought the idea stunk a bit anyway for something we could need again due to updated kit / OS in the phones. Clearly a problem as I see it for app producers.

All we know is that it uses bluetooth
The UK version doesn't use as much power as that can. Pulses, power control - pass.
Distance measurement. Ping time would be likely to need some dedicated hardware so left with signal strength. I wouldn't be surprised if the wallet I keep mine in would affect that. All sorts might. Microwaves are strange things in that area. I don't know any details.
Some obscure characteristics of radio waves - would have thought it would be mentioned.

On the other hand phones are tracked via cell distances etc from the masts. The cells overlap so signal strength can be used.

Tower data can't be relied on, nor GPS. as both can be unavailable on public transport, which is the most useful place for this app.

Who is saying that?

3 feet is a very specific claim.

FFS I listened to twenty minutes of radio before heading out to Truro to look at a job, I didn't write their names down. Why don't you go to BBC Iplayer and listen to todays Jeremy Vine show, he's quite anti govt so he'll be right up your street.

While you're here, whose Dom Cummings friend that got the app contract?

Apple and Google - you'd need our help.
Uk govt. - No we dont, Dom's mate says he can do it.
Apple and Google - off you go then.
Dom's mate - can I have your propriety code.
Apple and Google - hahahaha. No.
Dom's mate - why not?

Got a name for Doms mate?

so why aren't they doing nasty things / misusing that?

What government apps are being used by people now that track location and proximity to other people? Pretty sure there are none.
Allowing an app to measure how far you have cycled or record where a photo is posted is not the same as giving this data to the government.

perhaps they should have involved the EU

Coronavirus: Member States agree on an interoperability solution for mobile tracing and warning apps

We had a legal case in my rural village a while back where phone tracking was part of it.
The entire village (and more) was covered by one cell/tower so no triangulation was possible from nearby towers/cells
Strength of signal return from the phone was not a definitive measure either as to how far away it was from the mast.
So the one thing that was of critical importance in the case as to whether the phone moved across the village and back again during the time period in question could not be determined at all.
Of course the other lesson from all of this was that if you were doing something dodgy make sure you leave your phone switched on at home on the bedside table.

It's gone. Another complete c ock up by this sad sad excuse for a government that I even voted for. Lets let the idiots take us out of the thieving corrupt gravy train called the European Union and then force a general election. Even Starmer is better than these bunch of clowns. Not that I would have ever used that app anyway. I wouldn't have even downloaded it and if came down automatically it would have been taken off straight away.

Korea throw in where cards are used. China when transport is running normally rely on face masks and forget distancing but that is only going on pictorial TV info. An eased lock down also includes masks when any building is entered - even apartment blocks. I'd guess our lot are now assuming masks help prevent spread in transport.

There tracking includes all sorts even possibly face recognition and thermal scanning plus phone.

;) Something that sort of annoys me at times.

Dam thing works in the car too so I usually turn it off.

No, I've asked my friend who wrote the post.. but have a feeling it was flippant. Will let you know if I find out.
