we took our 14plate Nissan qashqai to a local Nissan garage to have 2 keys re- programmed along with the vechile as we lost a set of keys & didn't want the car pinched ..
we bought a second hand key & took it along with the spare key to the garage for them to do the job but they claim the second hand key was fake & it's put the car in complete shut down .
they want about £800 to fix it , I no the other key was OK .
can any help provide any info on this subject ..

Could be true. Dunno about Nissans but when I owned Land Rovers, plenty of people got caught out buying secondhand keys thinking they could be reprogrammed. They couldn’t, and you had to buy fresh, unused ones. Try phoning up a locksmith that specialises in programming keys for a quote do do the same thing (reprogram an existing original key and a secondhand one) and they’ll tell you whether it can be done or not.

There are some good locksmiths about so id ask their advice, sounds like nonsense to me but you never know.
There is an interesting one i watch that pops up on Facebook and its amazing what they can do.

It sounds to me like they are taking the p155. Are you telling me the specialists (the Nissan dealer) didn't know the difference between a real Nissan part and a knock off one?

I'd complain that you took the car to them expecting a certain level of expertise and they failed you.

They should have known it was a bad key and not attempted the key programming process if it would shut the car down and cause further expense.
