No fish, meat of eggs!

There is no shortage of eggs! go to a local farm shop there are loads. The shortage is created by the supermarkets refusal to pay the producers a decent amount. pure greed.
This is indeed the reason.

Supermarket have far too much power in this country.

Trouble is we all like cheap food too much to care

Sure there is. Egg producers have not been able to make a living and many have gone out of business.

I think I’ve upset Mrs Mottie. No egg when we have a fridge full of them and she knows I don't like peas.

Who wants to eat a chicken's period anyway?

Next on your plate, tampon sausages

Biology not one of your strong points? I guess the same people that will drink from a cows udder or munch on a pigs arse, will eat eggs.
Count me in.

It's one of the reasons...

Even the government admits the UK has a 'unique' system of food supply!

Namely that the powerful supermarkets lay down long term inflexible contracts, whereas elsewhere contracts tend to be flexible and there is more 'spot market' trading.

Of course the culling of millions of birds doesn't help, but the government is going to further squeeze egg supplies with a bit of opportunism...

Namely require people who keep chickens in their own gardens to register them, and a 'small' fee applied

We used to keep chickens, but even before the Ukraine war chicken feed became not 'chicken feed' anymore.

Thus whilst nice to have a supply literally in your own back yard, it no longer makes economic sense.

Hence we're all going to have to get used to more expensive food across the board.

As well as inferior food...

"Post-Brexit trade deals with Canada and Mexico will include imports of high-carbon beef and low-welfare pork"

This is true; they kill all the nearby shops and put a stranglehold on farmers. They are one of the main causes of pub closures.

Shops, pubs, farms - that's a lot of old England gone.

Simple changes to laws could stop this, if only we had truly conservative government.

Lidl are saying they are stopping the rationing because they have enough supplies.

Bring back the Milk Marketing Board! Etc!
It may be a rosy view, but farmers got a known, fair amount, but kept prices reasonable too. I agree, shops shouldn't be the controllers of staple foods. I'd prefer the balance of support to tip towards small dairy producers, a bit.

It's not all Brexit.

It's just we are harder to get produce from EU to UK i heard?
Any supply shortages because of weather or gas price in EU greenhouses UK don't get full amount.
It's also true that UK foods sell by dates are much shorter than previous years because of slower transport.
It's going to be the new normal unless better deals are going to be made, or we grow our own foods in heated greenhouses.
We won't go back in EU or will we sort out trade for many years to come I think
Past caring tbh.
