Help, I have a Glow worm compact 80e (gas) combi-boiler and recently the heating had become erratic, sometimes working fine sometimes not, often locking out. To cancel the lock-out I would need to create a HW demand before hitting the cancel button.
Last week the system started making a noise whenever the CH was active (like a switch clicking on and off rapidly) and the pump would get extremely hot. The noise would last for maybe one minute before what I assume is the temperature cut-off would kick in and turn the gas off. The system lock-out would NOT come on at this time.
During all this the hot water was working perfectly, if a little hotter than normal.
The motor which controls the CH/HW valve is working fine. The pump appears to be working fine. Some component which lies between the two appeared to be making all the noise, until late this morning when the system stopped working.
Turning on the hot taps now fails to light the boiler.
Externally the system looks fine - all the lights that should be on are on.
Edit: The noise is coming from an oscillating switch on the circuit board when there is a CH demand.
