For all you people in the South affected by this....you really should consider moving to the N.E. We've had enough rain in the last 24 hours to fill two resevoirs.

I always find this statement laughable when used with reference to England. Or, for that matter, any small island. Surely somebody, somewhere, has devised a method that would make full use of the bounteous liquid resource that, by its very nature, an island is privy to. Whats the system you get on boats? how does that work?

Of course we have the resevoirs. We were exporting water by the tanker load to Yorkshire a few years ago.
De-salination plants, but they're expensive that's why the water authorites don't want to build them.

do they have some kind of crazy notion that the situation is going to improve over the coming decades?

No it won`t improve.........The Govt. will just decree that houses be built up North and leave us in peace, but arid

Most ridiculous thing I've heard in a while is that near where my Mum lives in Cardiff is a massive reservoir. They now want to fill it in and build houses there

Personally, I would have said that we need more reservoirs, not less. Shouldn't matter where in the UK they are, they can be used to gather water to be transported to wherever needs it.

Maybe they could turn most of Shepton Mallet in Somerset into a huge reservoir. It seems to rain more there than anywhere else I've ever been!

it wouldn't matter if it peed down for 365 day's ....Guess what,When the next water bill drop's through your letter box....Yeah youv'e Guessed it.

How do islands such as Fuerteventura and the rest of the canaries manage? They get water from the sea, but its not drinkable to foreigners, so to what degree is it filtered and cleaned? And is this not an option to us in the UK?

Fuerteventura.....that's a mouthful.i would have said Majorca i can spell that one.
