Hello folks. I hope that this is the correct forum to be asking about a matter such as this. You know those power strips that can be bought in many supermarkets and other stores? They have a not-very long power cable (this will be about thirty inches long) with a moulded-on 13-amp fused plug at the end, while usually, the strip itself has four power sockets. With these, a single power point in the wall can serve power to up to four appliances, as long as the total demand on the single wall socket does not exceed 13 amps. Well, I am contemplating a job that would demand, not the above run-of-the-mill power strips, but ones that I don't know where to buy.

By the way, the reason for my needing power-strips, and not just a cable connector of some kind, is that the sockets need to be fixed to the wall, for one-handed plugging in and pulling out of the plug. An ordinary, loose cable-connector would need the use of two hands, and this would be impossible in the situation I should be facing. With power strips, screws can be fixed in the wall, and the power-strip just hooks onto the screws. So, unplugging etc can be done with one hand.

What I should need is TWO two-up power strips. By two-up, I mean that these strips would not have four outlet-sockets, but only two (thus reducing the length of the power-strip, as a 4-up one would be too wide). Furthermore, the lengths of the integral power cables, with moulded-on plugs, would need be much longer than can be bought in a supermarket. On one power strip, I would need a six-foot long cable, and on the other, a five-foot long cable.

Can anyone tell me where, in the UK, such bespoke types of power-strip can be bought? Even to find out where two-up strips, and disregarding the cable lengths, would be helpful. However, to find optional lengths of cable also would be even more helpful.

With thanks in advance, to anyone that can offer useful information,
A.W.

Hey, Bernard, thanks indeed for the information. The one sold by Wilko would be fine if I could be sure that there are holes in the back, for hooking this double socket-outlet on to screws in the wall. I can't see, from the webpage that you gave the link for, whether this is the case or not. Do you happen to know whether there is a means of hooking it up, as I describe? I am asking you, rather than going to Wilko's myself, not because I am lazy but because I am not very mobile (at 85). I'm OK in the house, but walking outside is a big ordeal for me. So, I am hoping you can tell me. If it does what I am asking about, I shall make a great effort, and go to Wilko's. On the face of it, it seems to be just what I need, but those screw-holes in the back face....?

These are far from non-standard, extension leads can be bought with all sorts of numbers of outlets, I have seen 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, & 8 and all sorts of lengths, easily up to 10m.

Looking on Amazon for "two gang extension lead" it says there are over 3,000 results (albeit some are not two gang). On the first page of results, most are 2m long (c.6'6") which will do what you want, e.g.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Elec-PL09172-Way-Extension-Lead-White/dp/B00OCY7IE6/

On that page there I get some that are 3m long and examples 4, 5 & 10 metres long.

StephenOak, thank you very much indeed, for the link! This item could prove to be a godsend. However, as with the reply from Bernard, I need to know whether the one shown with the first link you give has holes at the back, to hook it to screws driven into the wall. If you know about this, I should be very grateful for the information. And thanks anyway!

The short answer is that I have no idea, I was just showing that what you are looking for is basically easy to find and so there are lots for you to choose between.

All I can suggest is that you look at a number of these until you find one that makes it clear that it does have those keyhole slots. For example this one
https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0084TBHQK
shows the reverse (in the bottom picture on the LH side) and that does include those slots. That one is only 1m long though.

If you cannot find one with a suitable picture (or that says it has these slots) then you can ask questions on Amazon. For example this one
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Pro-Elec-PL09172-Way-Extension-Lead-White/dp/B00OCY7IE6/?tag=diynotcom-21
has a question about this point and an answer.

Finally, one practical point. When you have quoted my, and Bernard's, responses you have included your text at the end before the
which makes it look like you have just quoted something and not added anything.

You need to put your text after the
.

Stephen, let's deal with the different points that you make, in their order.
1) You say that you don't know about the keyholes for screws. After I had asked about whether you knew or not, I realised that you had simply used the web to find the information, and not necessarily bought one of these items (which, at first, I assumed that you had). The same applies to my question to Bernard. It was a bit dense of me to assume that you had bought one. If I had typed the correct terms into my search engine, I should have found what you found, but I typed in a different phrase, and thus my search was of no use.
2) Thanks again for the information about being able to ask Amazon a question. I did not know that. Also, thanks for telling me about the one that does show holes. It raises my hopes about the ones that don't show the reverse. I shall find out, later.
3) As regards what you tell me about the quotation, to me, it all looks as it should do on my screen. There is the quotation ("Stephen said...."), and my reply is underneath. What is wrong about that?
With kind regards,
A.W.

Rewireable trailing sockets are available from http://cpc.farnell.com. The two-socket trailer does not have any mounting holes in the back, but the three-way and larger can be wall-mounted. (There are other companies who can supply these rewireable sockets as well.) HTH

You've been here for 6 years, have made 68 posts, must have read hundreds - it's hard to understand how you haven't noticed how quoting is supposed to be used.

The preceding part of your post was OK. This bit was not.

I've been here years and still occasionally mess up. Big deal. Chill and give the fella a break.

This is utter *£$^£*(%&%* madness.

MODS - pack it in - it will do no good, and it will NOT change my attitude to incompetence.

Before a moderator edited it for you it looked like this:

i.e. you made it look as if StephenOak had written all of that text - you made it look as if it was all "StephenOak said".

Now it looks like this:

Can you see the difference?
