Not sure I like how this skirting meets the architrave - opinions

Has anyone seen skirting laid this way before? Not my DIY. Was the builders carpenter son, but I may have to fix it DIY.

It's a feature to be sure but like you, not sure that I like it. Amongst other things, you're left with that big join running diagonally which needs filling and sanding.
 
Yeah, I think it looks crap TBH, but I'm trying to be objective as maybe it's just me and I've never seen anything like this before?
 
It is done like that because your architrave is smaller in depth than the skirt otherwise you will just have a cut off end showing. It could of been done with the join being disguised by the profile

2mm thicker! Surely it’s not just me that finds this odd?
