Remember his disastrous attempt to free tne American hostages, if successful he might have been re elected instead of Reagan
Yes, it was arranged it prior to his leaving office, but it was held up by Reagan's supporters so the handover would take place after the election..

The hostages were freed a few minutes after Reagan took the oath.

Nobody seriously believes that Reagan arranged the deal within minutes. It was Carter's deal.

I came downstairs 20 minutes ago to post it having heard about it from Bob Harris. made a cup of tea and forgot all about it.
I made a point of listening to his last broadcast, he'd been doing his radio show from home for some time because of illness. That seems like just a few weeks ago.
I liked his style and he played my kind of music. RIP.

He did the lunchtime show on Radio 1 back in the early/mid 70's. I remember him on air criticising the chart music he had to play, then he played a track from Dark Side of the Moon. It was along time ago, even Noel Edmunds was cool then.

Bob Harris was talking about that, they had quite strict playlists for the daytime shows, evenings less so. Johnny had a few 'workarounds' where he slipped in a bit of Eric and Bruce.

To a Rock, Blues & Prog music fan he was the the No2 DJ to John Peel. His knowledge of 'real' Soul music also was exemplary (and much better than the BBC peep's who set the '70's playlists).
