Oak flooring

Innocent question here, whats wrong with varnishing an Oak floor? Remember this is a bathroom, and the floor is going to get wet. Every day.
Oil them, let it breath.

Yo - Eddie's right.

The problem with varnish is that it will, no matter what sort you use, develop cracks as the wood underneath moves. Then water gets under the cracks and your lovely oak floor starts to go black.

Tung or Danish Oil.

I've just fitted my whole bungalow (apart from the bedrooms) in oak T&G, I'm using OS Hard Waxoil (now called Polyx Oil) for everywhere other than the bathroom, here I'm using a matt floor varnish, which will give the floor better protection when the kids are slopping water out of the bath. Good luck, j

got the oil from the Natural Wood Flooring Company in Wandsworth, cheapest place I could find http://www.naturalwoodfloor.co.uk/

got the flooring from Herve at http://www.devansoft.co.uk/clients/frenchtimberdirect/ it cost me £16 per m2 for 180mm wide overlay boards (14mm thick) he also does 180mm wide by 22mm thick for around £30 per m2, looks great now it's down.

I hired an overlay nailer from HSS, £30 ish for the weekend.
