OBD scanner issue

I invested in a Topdon ArtiDiag800BT.

Sadly, the scanner does not seem compatible with my 2003 VW or my sister's 2004 VW both which are Bora TDIs.

Plugged into the OBD port, the dongle is being activated yet it is when plugged into a 2019 Ford.

Topdon have sent out a replacement scanner and it has the same bother.

A member on a VW forum I use said "The PQ34 platform (Bora, Golf 4 etc) isn't CAN BUS compatible."

Does anyone here have a ArtiDiag800BT working with a 2003 VW?

That, from deep in my memory, was around when canbus became standard for diesels, likely your 2003/2004 pre-dated things becoming standardised. Some manufactures met the standard earlier than that.

Anything diesel pre 2008 is hit and miss on any scanner other than oe

Some, as Harry said, met the standard early, many didn't. And it wasn't always across their whole ranges either
