Whatever the politics, today is one year after a terrible act of terrorism.

Today my thoughts go to all those that suffered and all those families that continue to suffer the trauma.

No doubt, but something has been bugging me from the outset, Israel and their allies have the most sophisticated surveillance system in the world, they can pinpoint the location of individual commanders and take them out, so what happened on October 7th?

Are you saying Israel and its allies are stuck in the 70s, my impression on my visits is of a highly technological advanced country on a constant ready for war footing, was I wrong?

There is probably rarely a day, month or year when something isn't 'afoot' against Israel. Hamas fired over 4000 rockets and and mortars at Israel in 2021 alone so Israel is constantly under attack in one form or another. Lower level stuff is brushed off by the Iron Dome system.
A full ground invasion?, I doubt Israel were expecting that, probably just an escalation in rocket attacks.

The internet is full of swivel eyed loons with conspiracy theories.

If you want to believe Netanyahu was aware of the invasion or even helped plan it just so he could destroy Hamas, then push into Gaza with the sole intention of killing babies and journalists nobody can stop you believing that.

Sometimes you just have to look at history and what a sane person might call the balance of probabilities.

There were shortcomings by Israel on the intelligence side, the Israeli military intelligence chief, Major General Aharon Haliva accepted responsibility and resigned. There may have been further resignations since then, I'm not sure.

So in your own words rockets are fired into Israel on a more or less daily basis do you honestly think the egyptians would phone him up to warn about a rocket attack ?
