Why is there no plan?

Announcement from Gove expected Monday, looking for homes for refugees without family in the UK, potentially up to 100K.
The homes will need to be vetted, hopefully ellal will let us know how he gets on with his screening.
Indeed I will...

It will be interesting to see if this is an easy system to navigate, or whether it is the usual government 'climb through too many hoops' approach...

In other words appearing to do do something/anything but achieving little!

But as I have said, why weren't there even rudimentary plans waiting for a refugee crisis...

It's not exactly unprecedented is it!

Edit:
"Refugee workers have warned that Ukrainians seeking sanctuary from war may end up in hotel accommodation because of the “decimation” of official resettlement programmes.

They warned that sponsorship schemes of the kind that is set to be launched by Michael Gove on Monday should supplement, not replace, large-scale state programmes, amid fears that generous communities were being expected to “pick up the pieces” in the absence of official help."

So the question that still has to be answered is...

How come a group of 30 countries can get their act together very quickly, but a single country apparently free of perceived constraints (ones that didn't exist of course) can't?

we have a leader whose strategy is this:

Boris Johnson stand as at the back and waits to see which way the public goes, then he runs to the front and shouts “follow me”.

I suspect this is the reason: Brexit was sold on the notion it allowed the UK to “make its own decisions”. Currently the borders bill is going through Parliament - well inviting refugees here runs roughshod through the bill and they don’t want that.

Which I suppose is why the Poles, Hungarians, Moldovans and Romanians have all closed their doors to Ukranians - no, wait, the OPENED their doors.
Correct me if I'm wrong but I don't think they have opened any 'extra' doors in those countries whatsoever. Like UK residents, Ukrainians can travel to those Schengen countries without a visa anyway, can't they?

I think ETIAS application was introduced last year

So what about Ireland? In any case those countries are also saying that they will allow Ukrainian refugees to stay for 3 years

Bit of a longer walk with a big swim at the end of it to get there possibly?
"Ireland expects thousands of Ukrainians to arrive in the country this year.
The Transport Minister has announced details of a refugee hub being set up for Ukrainians.
It'll be in place at Dublin Airport to welcome refugees entering the country.
At the hub, Ukrainians will be provided with PPS numbers and advice on accommodation.
It comes as the government have tried to make a coordinated approach to welcome refugees from the war-torn country."

UK residents may only stay for 90 days in a 6 month period in schengen countries. That is an accumulative amount, not 90 days in each country...

"Ukrainian refugees will be given residence permits to stay inside the bloc for at least one year, a period that will be automatically extended for a further year. Member states can then decide to prolong the exceptional measure by one more year if the war continues to ravage the country.

Although Ukraine is not part of the passport-free Schengen Area, its nationals are entitled to visa-free travel for up to 90 days. The EU's scheme intends to offer a lasting solution once the 90-day limit is exhausted."

I'd say that not only does it open more doors, it keeps them open for a longer period of time...

Wouldn't you agree?

Ireland expects thousands of Ukrainians to arrive in the country this year.
So by December 31st then, eh? The UK expects thousands to come here too (only 143 in Ireland at this very moment) There's over a thousand that have come to the UK so far and we expect thousands more I mean, how do you expect your Ukrainian family to get here - they're not relatives of yours are they? BTW, you better start laying plans for your excuses down now so you won't be embarrassed when I ask you in a years time where they are. We don't want another 'my situation has changed' excuse like you gave for still being in this country after telling us all you were leaving in 2019, do we? ;)

My point was, Ukrainians can get into a Schengen country IMMEDIATELY with no visa being required. Okay, it might only be for 90 days at the moment but what are those caring Schengen countries going to do going to do after 90 days, send them back to Ukraine?

Reading/comprehension isn't your strong point is it!

2 years certainty with the possibility of a third year kind of answers that doesn't it

Numeracy seems to be lacking with you as well...

From a report on Friday...

"Since the invasion, 2,965 Ukrainian nationals, mostly women and children, arrived at Dublin Airport as of Wednesday, including 486 on Sunday, the highest daily number of arrivals. In the UK, a country with a population 13 times the size of Ireland’s, just 957 visas were approved by Wednesday for Ukrainians"

You seem to agree that thousands will come here, and yet wonder how they will get here...

The clue is the word 'airport'...

I do believe the UK has plenty of those where big silver birds can land...

In addition there are choo choos all over Europe and even a big tube under the channel that they can use...

Maybe you ought to learn how to join the dots?

Here's a starter for you :)

Edit: It appears that the UK has been shamed by the EU approach and will now match the longer time limits.

And there will be a payment of £350 pm for hosts...

I wonder how many will be tempted by that?

Although I doubt that those who are used to taking taxpayers money for nothing will balk at the idea of having to do something in return!

And you got up at 3.29 to post that and again at 6.13 to edit it? Either I'm constantly in your dreams or you had time on your hands on the care-home night shift. I don't know whether to be flattered or worried.:eek:

You really are very sad...

Still carrying on with stupid theories that have been disproved...

I happen to prefer planning what to do with our assets at a time when there are few distractions...

And given the current situation, decisions have to be taken regularly!

Of course I note that you haven't responded to the rebuttal of your claims...

Why is that?

Oh that's right, as always you been caught out lying!

.....is where Ellal chooses to live?
I didn't choose, xenophobes like yourself chose to axe our freedom of movement...

One day you might understand how stupid you look, but I ain't holding my breath!
