No, you can quite easily make fine tea with 97.5 degree water with the 99% of other taps on the market. If you had any knowledge you would understand that you cannot make tea at 100 degrees because that is just steam! By the time your pour it out of the kettle it's already a few degrees less.
I have no idea how it works, my wife tells me it cooks quicker, she tells me it's something to do with less latent heat of evaporization and less steam rising up from pans. All I know is it keeps her happy.
