Flameport... Thanks for posting the page from the Crabtree catalogue,

I like it that Crabtree supplied wood screws as well as "normal" screws for fixing the plate to a back box. I recall so many wooden back boxes.
 
The only wooden back boxes I've seen were for accessories with machine screws which forced little toothed lugs outwards which dug into the sides of the box.

The box lugs are at the sides, not top & bottom, so unless the two rockers/toggles are arranged vertically, Bernard is right and flameport is wrong.

Would everybody please take this as a defining example of the folly of using guesswork and stop advising and facilitating it?

I offered no advice. The query was answered and I found it interesting and the OP agreed we could discuss it. Your (BAS) input is, as usual not helpful. (To be polite)
