I'm very sorry if I've started an argument. Not doing well as I've just been flamed on another thread and I only joined yesterday. :oops:

I just suggested my method which I've never had problems with even with High Tention currents eg;car ignition systems.

I have to add that I'm not sure I'd be happy leaving that red wiring like that for long. WD40 is a penitrator so it can creep very easily. If it's got into the insulation tape of that live wiring it could effectivley un-sheeth itself. Plus it usually take quite a bit of heat to make the insulation tapes adhesive go 'wet' and as you say 'gooey', and in the pic the black wires PVC insulation looks slightly melted right at the ends. Could be just the way I'm seeing it though.
