Has anyone else had the "we're from Microsoft technical, and there's a virus on your 'puter" scam?
I've had "This is Microsoft technical services. Your computer has reported a problem" twice, both times in a barely intelligible foreign accent.
The first time round I wasn't sure what I'd heard and replied "I haven't reported any problems". This was quickly followed by "No, no, your COMPUTER has reported a problem."
This was when the penny dropped. How many people, when presented with that slightly annoying message inviting them to send an error report to Microsoft, just click on Send?
I told him in no uncertain terms that Microsoft didn't know who I was, didn't even know I had a computer and certainly didn't know my phone number.
He still wouldn't let up so I hung up.
Next time around was easier. I simply replied "What computer? What makes you think I've got a computer?" He hung up.

My usual method with phone calls, when they ask for me by name, is to say “Oh just a minute. I’ll go and get him” and then leave the phone active and get on with what I was doing before they bothered me.
Brilliant! I'll try that next time.
PS: I nearly forgot this one. It was Orange and they really took the biscuit:
"Hello ---- We would like to offer you a free phone --"
"Hold it right there. Is this a contract phone or pay as you go?"
"Of course this is a contract phone but --"
"No thanks. we only use pay as you go here."
With that, I hung up but the phone rang a few minutes later. It was Orange again:
"Hello -- Could you tell me how much you spend each month on your phones?"
"NO! NOW P*SS OFF!"
You couldn't make it up; you really couldn't.
