One month in a new house and oven every now and again trips the RCD in the consumer unit (the circuit breaker, if that's the correct word, for the circuit is unaffected).

I've read this may be due to an "earth leakage fault" (which in turn could be due to a faulty element). The oven (AEG) has 4 elements and all seem to be working. I also checked with a multimeter and all seem to have continuity, this however is the limit of my abilities.

My question is who next - oven repairer or electrician?? I'm just keen to spend money once and not twice! (Trouble with being new into the house is I'm not sure if it's a new fault or not...)

All help appreciated.

Make a note of what element is on when it trips.
What happens is the insulation breaks down as the element heats.
When you know what element replace it.

Alternatively, switch off the oven at the DP switch. Does the tripping continue to occur?

What you need to do is turn on each element individually.
Have the element heat at maximum.
This will tell you if you have one individual element fault.
The element may take a little time to trip the RCD at first as it will take some time to reach the temperature that it is tripping at, but once this has happened if you reset RCD straight away and power that element back on it will trip very soon afterwards.
It could also be possible that the combined leakage from two elements are causing the problem.
Once you have found the problem and nailed it down to the element(s)
You have a number of options:
Cheapest in order:
You say new house, does that mean new appliance still under warranty, if so call the manufactures service line.
You could order new element and replace yourself or get electrician in
You could get the appliance service engineer around.
The other thing to consider is if the RCD is functioning correctly.
