Overboarding hardboard ceiling?

Hi All,

I've a hardboard ceiling in our Victorian loft conversion. It has defacts in some area's and has swollen around the clout nails holding it up etc so not a fully flat nice finish so want rid.

I seriously don't want to pull it down as it has insulation on top and also dust from a recent reroof etc. Am I okay to overboard it with plasterboard directly and skim?

Any thoughts appreciated.

On the face of it, there's no problem overboarding but:

If this is a BCO approved loft conversion - then has BCO seen the hardboard, and approved your proposition?
What kind/value of insulation is in-place, and are there any venting arrangements?
Are you certain that there's no leaks or condensation?

Ok cool and thanks for replying Vinn. Not a modern loft conversion, just victorian one when the house was built I think or and after thought to use the space better. Insulation above is good as it's a plenty deep 'rockwool'. I'm addressing the insulation on the pitchs now deepening rafters and applying 150mm after discussing with BCO, since I replacd the roof covering need to be addressed.

No leak's now 'new roof and I'm aware of any major ones with the old roof, just was getting tired. I'll be keeping an eye on condensation but do these modern breathable felts still suffer from this anyway now?

I'll go for a slightly longer plaster board screw.

One last thing, I'll be looking to get some spotlights put into the new ceiling 'led'. I'm guessing I'll get these done after I've overboarded?
