Hello all a couple of questions if you have a minute

I'm looking at a copy of building regs the only thing it said I can pack joists with is some slate which in some instances I have done.

However where the depth of packing needed is only minimal I have used some damp proof course as it's thin and seems non compressible to me is this ok?

Also where the main room 9inch joists and smaller room 5inch joists meet the middle load bearing floor, I have replaced some of the 5inch one's as they were badly damaged, the old joists used to hang over the centre line and I have left the new one's to do the same as it gives me a greater floor area to secure the new flooring onto it, is there anything wrong with this? the 9inch joists are chopped off flush with the intermediate wall.

thanks very much

Not a problem. The timber shrinkage/expansion alone will amount to more than a millimeter or two of dpc.

Again, no problem. So long as the floor joists have 100mm bearing then any more is a boon.

What do you mean by 'center' line?

great thanks for that, I meant center supporting wall sorry,

Where the joists seem to have been over-drilled in the past I'm worried about the strength of these. I am adding some additional joists inbetween, basically 47 * 225 to take up some of the weight as the floor also has a block wall built on it (and it's a very old house) or should I but these up to the weaker joists and and bolt them together?

I was thinking about just adding them inbetween the current 40cm spaced 1.5by9 inch joists but wondering if butting them up would be a better option?

thanks
