I don't know where you're getting these 'builders' from or whether you are doing it yourself and afraid to ask for help??

This is notifiable work for good reason and your should have involved building control.

I assume your rendering the brickwork as it looks atrocious.

Is a building inspector meant to check if a RSJ is placed correctly and padstones used where necessary? My bungalow wall is cracking because the RSJ’s weight and the supporting wall is effectively only taking the weight on the width of the original, outside wall. The inner wall has massive holes in and a crack in the corner where the RSJ is situated. No padstone in place. But the builder knew the walls weren’t strong as I had shown him the poor mortar and poor bricks.
So if you feel you need padstones, surely it’s best to be safe than sorry?

This is one of the holes caused by a builder not using padstones. Sadly only found out the damage whilst decorating. Builder finished 7 years ago. Ridiculous as now I can afford to correct damage
