Hi people, well this is my first post for my first every property (well the first one that i actually own).
There is quite a bit of work needing done to it so i'm rolling up the sleeves and getting stuck in.
One of the first things i looked at were the doors.
The last time they we redecorated (back in the 60/70's) for some reason they had boarded over all the paneling, which to me is a major crime. I have pulled off all the board and found that they have damaged the doors appearance even more by removing a lot of the insert detail.
Can anyone give me the correct name for this detail, as i will be looking for replacement for most of it in the doors.
I thought it was maybe beading, and does anyone know of anywhere i can order it as it will need to be about 12mm deep and 50mm in width. Thanks for any help...

What the doors possibly had was a bolection moulding around the panels, i.e. a moulding which stood proud of the surface of the door like these panels:

I'd try around a few of the joinery suppliers in your area, especially anyone who manufactures doors to order. Also some of the big building/joinery suppliers like Travis-Perkins offer a selection of timber mouldings, including bolection mouldings

Excellent, thats the stuff im looking for, the only difference is thta it doesnt actually sit proud of he surface. I'll take some pics of the doors that are still intact. At least now i know what to look for.

In that case you are probably just looking for an applied moulding. If the mouldings are pinned to the frame it should be possible to gently pry them out one at a time. Watch out, though, because some mouldings are worked on the rails, stiles and muntins of the doors (as single pieces) with counter profiles cut on the ends of the rails and muntins and they cannot be removed. Fortunately these are normally only found on external doors.

Yeah i inspected a bit closer today and it does seem to be an applied moulding and the doors without them seem to have had them chiseled out as some of the marks are pretty obvious. I really don't understand why anyone would do this.
I think that refurbishment is the way to go as none of the doors are a similar size so getting reclaimed ones would be fun and likely expensive.
Besides i like a bit of a challenge and i'm enjoying the work i've done on the flat thus far and the feeling of accomplishment.
