Do they still show usage when they’ve been removed ?
some did it was a known fault that was kept quiet people were complaining about increased bills some glitch in the software seemingly .
Not heard of it recently not to say not still some faulty ones out there

They cost a little more, than a dumb meter, but they have potential to save considerable labour and fuel costs, of meter readers driving round reading meters.

We have old fashioned meters that I read every month and upload the readings.

Takes me less than 5 minutes.

Cost = zero

Cost per household - £30-£70.
Net gain per household £250.

They are just a meter. Little men don't live inside them and they don't spy on folk. (y)

So you are saying that the total cost to install 2 SMs in our house is £30 -£70 -Rubbish

As for net gain - rubbish

But instead of "little men" there is, in smart meters, a relay that is designed to switch off the supply to the house; This relay can be controlled by a signal from a remote control room.

There are no such relays in dumb meters,

Ignoring the cost of the meters, because meters do need swapping from time to time, anyway. The installer took around 30 minutes to swap both of my meters, a particularly easy swap. An hour should cover most, so around £200 cost, per swap. Meters have a minimum 10 year life, so that's a cost of £20 per year.

Potential savings for some customers, is much, much more than £250 per year, due to the tariffs which open up with a SM. I've never bothered calculating my own savings, but £250 per annum, would be well within my saving range, and for doing nothing special at all, just consuming as normal.

So what? The vast majority of customers, will never, ever even be, or become aware of them.

We actually, did. The white meters had relays inside them, but generally no - there would be no point, the tech was not around back then, to do anything useful.
