parallel & taper threads

Sorry but I can't do links as I'm computer illiterate , 'my suppliers' you state? , do you work in this industry? , I would say not considering you don't know what a CU68 is , it looks very much like a 15mm tap con that utilizes a ¾ union nut.

So google it and tell us where to get one

You can type so where do you get one from.

In my time such fittings would be prefixed by words like Yorkshire Etc as the codes were frequently cribbed from one manufacturer.

I don't think the 68 is the right fitting unless you want to reduce the copper pipe.

The usual fitting would have been the Yorkshire YP 69 or YP 69f

Fully pumped systems would use the cu68 (1" union nut/22mm tail) gravity systems that require 28mm would use the 1"x 28mm female to copper.

Grahams/empress/BSS/portagas etc etc , certainly not wickes.

Your not in the plumbing/heating/gas industry are you? ;)

Drat Doitall! you spolt my fun.

I had not heard of a CU68 in my time and reckoned Steelmasons either cribbed it off some-one who made a mistake and didn't know what he was talking about or it was a fitting I genuinely didn't know about. I was intent on finding out which!

Wickes coupling: sealed by washer against flange, threads parrallel.

Whilst this is a technically correct answer you will not find any washer to fit it at Wickes or probably any other retail outlet. You need a 1/2" BSP external washer to fit using the flange and a washer for sealing.

Also of interest I have yet to see any such fitting actually supplied with a washer, so what do they expect you to use?

The only 1/2"BSP external washer you will find easily are the poly or rubber ones used for tank connectors which tend to have a larger suitable flange for that type of washer. I would expect to use a fibre washer for flange sealing the "wickes" type of flange.

As this is a DIY forum what would you recommend the DIY'er use?

this is exactly what I am trying to understand :)

You can buy these fittings like their going out of fashion but to find the correct washer to do the job correctly seems to be a struggle. I am by no means a plumber but can get by just about, however my plumbing terminology can come across vague and even plumb centre couldn't understand what I wanted LOL.

all your help is very much appreciated fellas and I do could not find the CU 68 fitting

A CU68 (CU anything, for that matter) has been a YP whatever (Yorkshire Potable) for almost 30 years.

CU stands for copper , whether you prefer endex/Yorkshire etc then use the correct numbers , as I said it's referred too as a xx68.

the 68 is a cone joint.

the 68 cl is a spigot and washer (same as a tap connector.

the 68 ff is a flat face with washer.

the 68 m is for gas meters.

CU was always the Yorkshire prefix prior to the introduction of lead-free solder to their fittings around 30 years ago (prefixes were then YP for Yorkshire Potable, YL for Yorkshire Leaded), N the Endex prefix.

Does 5 years with a plumbing company then 25 years with an international company dealing with M&E contractors not count? I ended up in management of contracts for all trades.

I now work for myself so it is interesting to learn of fittings I have never heard of and CU68 is one of them.

You on the other hand have so far failed to provide a single supplier for "CU68" that can be verified online. - I have been checking those you listed.
