My son lives in West End Glasgow, about 800.m from two very, very popular venues [the SSEC + the Hydro] as well as loads of Pubs + some very. very good restaurants.

Result is that parking is at a premium, because of the above punters using the big venues but not wanting to pay parking charges at them, the parking restrictions run in this area up to 1800 Hrs.

The local Authority issue "residents parking" disks to be displayed [like the old vehicle Tax Disk] for this area, so the resident can [if they are lucky] park without feeding a meter.

A simple Residents parking [paid for] scheme will stop all of the above.

As an aside, the cost of a Residents Parking Permit is about the same as the cost of "feeding a Meter for ONE WEEK?"

Downside is that to get / renew a Resident permit you MUST and can ONLY renew right slap bang in the center of Glasgow, then go through hoops backwards to prove, you own the car, the car is indeed registered to you at the address within the restricted zone, Etc. Etc. Etc

Clunky but it works.

Only if you can find a parking spot, given the above "attractions" ???

How many permits per household can they get, and do they have visitors permits ? Some places with residents only parking can be a pain to work in, some don't have cars, so have no permits, result you can't park. Worst place is/was Sutton, one road had a few pay & display machines, but all the bays were for residents only. I wonder how many got caught out there ?

If you choose to park illegally, knowing that you risk a ticket if a warden happens by, then why the surprise when you get a ticket for parking illegally?

Not really. It's about the available parking being taken away - no notice, no warnings, nothing.
They actually fenced in the cars in the car park that were there!
I wanted to know if the council were responsible for providing some sort of parking. There is nothing else nearby at all. I also wouldn't be surprised if they sent out a warden at 6pm (when never ever done that before) because they knew it would be easy pickings as people would be forced to park on the road. Certainly feels like it..

But anyway, thanks for your input, it's been invaluable.

Not so sure about that - if they take away the only parking then surely they should suspend the restricted zones? With losing half the amount of available parking, no warning that the carpark was being shut off (was ok when I left in the morning) I am unable to park anywhere near my home. It's an ordinary (mainly residential) street, in a conservation area and not a town center or anything that is important or can cause jams.

Everyone should appeal - at least they earn their money a bit then with the paperwork involved!!

Totally agree with your logic. It is common sense. But it still doesn’t give you grounds for appeal

Many parking zones are controlled and can change throughout the day. They expect that those who can drive can also read. What's your point?

You're allowed to appeal and it 'stops the clock' while the appeal process is ongoing. The fine doesn't double just because you appeal, you still get a chance to pay half if done quickly when get the official refusal of appeal, same as if you pay quickly after initially getting the ticket.

At least that's what it used to be like (first parking ticket in years).

Call me dumb, but I didn't just chance it, hoping not to get a ticket, or hoping to plead my case after the fact. Either option is loaded in their favour.

Phone them up and explain. This happened quite a lot when working, and for all their faults, Croydon council were about the best at not giving you grief and sorting things out.

I would have done, but their f off big sign was entirely devoted to rules, regs, charges, and penalties, with not a single mention of how to contact the parking nazis, in case of fault with their hardware, or dispute.
