Hi All,

Been reading topics on this forum for a couple of weeks now. Im very impressed with the help and information available.

Just one question..... until I came onto this forum I knew nothing on part p... Im probably like most on here and class myself as a competent diy'er. So did the govt run some adverts (that I may have missed) or post notice in local papers or posted something thru my door (that my dog may have ate.. but then I dont have a dog lol).

My point is....... How is joe public meant to know about these things?

How are the govt/bodies going to check ?? Are they going to do spot inspections ?

Maybe Im missing the point completely !!

there has been no advertising that i know of. everyone is just 'expected' to know

No adverts that I've seen, but there have been press articles, and I'm sure that I once saw a small notice on the service desk counter in a B&Q vaguely hinting at new building regs.

My point is....... How is joe public meant to know about these things?

Maybe the Government operate on the "ignorance is no excuse" principle.

but if it's like other "public information" films it'll only be shown in the wee small hours.

I think they hoped that the Sellers Pack would be the enforcement mechanism, but that's all going pear-shaped as well....

Not sure about the sellers pack, but not having the relevent building approval when you come to sell will, I think they are different things.

Obviously though, if you have done a diy job you would know that all of your electrical mods were done prior to Jan '05

Where the owner has had a pro in to do the work, who hasn't notified, self cert, or made them aware they were using a time machine, that is where they will come unstuck.

Very interesting thoughts....

It reminds me when I sold my house last year and the solicitor needed fensa cert (now being an ex squaddie I keep all my paperwork filed away) but I could not find the cert.
It turns out that the company was still in the progress of issuing certs (I think they were on a 2-3 year backlog). my sister was worse, she couldnt find the cert and her company has since gone bust and she had to pay £150 to the solicitor !!

Nice advert ... shame no one has seen it on air yet.. maybe b & q will do a preview as u go into the store lol

My local corner electrical shop (where I get most bits n pieces from) told my about the wiring colouring change and gave me a little sticker for my cu, but didnt go into part p in depth !

Looks like all the work I have done on my house was done in 2004 .. honest gov lol
