PAT testing

Hi

Can anyone tell me if I need a special certificate or qualification to do PAT testing. I am an electrician of 30 years but havnt got 16th edition. I know at one time it had to be a competant person but has that changed recently?

Dont believe you do need a special qualification no. i understand it to be a competent persons thing.

but how do you defend yourself if you find yourself in the dock?

you could enroll on the city and guilds 2377 course (for pat testing) and passing this would go some way to showing competence.

its an easy course and costs roughly £200, it only takes a day aswell.

thats about right,as long as your familiar with the different tests and confident you can identify the risks then your fine
