All politicians either lie or change their minds. Its part of being an MP.
reducing it to a binary argument makes it meaninlgess

the "all politicians lie" is used as an excuse to make it seem every politician is the same

there is no equivalence between Starmer and Boris the liar

Yes, but in a fair way, not picking on the poorest and letting all the rich except those with private jets pay more
which is what Labour have done

CGT -tax on the rich
farming IHT tax changes -tax on the rich

Lots of people warned how difficult it would be,

NINE and a half grand to spend a year hanging out with your mates in the prime of your youth is still a good deal, students have been told.

Undergraduates have been urged to overlook the minor matter of yet another tuition fee U-turn by bastards to focus on £9,535 a year being a fair price for a year of hard partying with the possibility of higher-paid employment afterwards.

Education secretary Bridget Phillipson said: “You’re living with your mates. Your body can withstand multiple benders five nights a week. Weed dealers make house calls. Either way you slice it, this jacked-up rate’s still a bargain.

“If you’re smart and chose a BA, you’ve got a maximum eight hours of contact time a week. The rest of it’s your own to go absolutely f**king hogwild with, and believe me I did.

“When you’re in the real world, nine and a half grand can’t even get you on the property ladder. Yet here you are getting a degree and a yeast infection from some random fresher. That’s living.

“Yes, it used to be free. So did squatting in central London. But compare it to living at home and working at Domino’s and we should be charging you double, because that’s what this experience is worth.”

17-year-old Tom Booker said: “Three years of non-stop casual sex and recreational drug use and the only downside is a lifetime of crippling debt? Where do I sign?”

let us know where:
Our fiscal rules are that:
  • The current budget moves into balance, so that day-to-day costs are met by revenues
  • Debt must be falling as a share of the economy by the fifth year of the forecast.

Our fiscal rules are non-negotiable and will apply to every decision taken by a Labour government. This means that the current budget must move into balance, so that day-to-day costs are met by revenues and debt must be falling as a share of the economy by the fifth year of the forecast.

Then the contentious element headed by this heading
We have not allocated all additional revenue to potential spending. This is a prudent approach in line with our commitment to economic stability.
Policies not listed here will be funded from existing budgets or do not have a cost.

Now the black hole has to be considered. I achieved a better understanding of the fiscal rules from C4 news. Well before the election. It discussed the budget surplus aspect - £16b being reduced £10b. There has been little argument about a £10b5 black hole and yet more has been found. That wipes out the surplus. Then comes pay review bodies - we have them, assume they cost so take notice of them or not? Well hospital people are generally dedicated but screw down their pay for ever? It wont work out and didn't. Lots of the population has had over inflation level pay rises anyway.

So Labour fall back on exactly what they said they would - the fiscal rules. Pay rises collect more tax. Some say just reverse the NI cut but they said they wouldn't so haven't.

The other point to note that figures now often relate to totals over the 5 year planning period. We have a hell of a welfare budget that will continue to increase over a number of years - probably even beyond the 5 year period. Retirement figures in this also the shrinking workforce.

In 3years Labour need to recheck the sums. I wonder what would have happened if the Tory remained in and did that?

The Uni people would like to see a return to the gov paying a proportion. Maybe you should look at when that changed - also the tax penalty to cover it.
