Pipe size

Hi,

Just a quick question about pipe sizes. I've got to change an old section of pipe. It looks to be about 28mm but the pipe dates back to the mid 70's. Has there been any changes in size from imperial to metric in that time? If so, what was the old size and where can i get reducers/expansion joints?

It'll probably be 28mm, have you measured it?

I have some 3/4" to 22mm connectors, never had 1 1/8" to 28mm but I guess you can get 'em.

The imperial version of 28mm was 1". Adaptors should be available, but by the mid 70s (no apostrophe!) metric had been introduced.

If its old inch pipe,28mm will normally be fine but you will need to clean the old pipe very well to allow the fittings to attach,sometimes it needs a rub with emery cloth/sand paper to reduce the size enough

Thanks so much everyone. Particularly chrishutt who is flying the flag for the correct use of the apostrophe in the English language. As it goes I rarely get things wrong, but I have this time. There should however be an apostrophe though: '70s.

I think I was thinking the pipe belonged to the '70s, or that the apostrophe was a subtitution for the 'ies' in seventies.... yes that was it!!!
