pipes knocking...

I have knocking water pipes caused by, i think, a washing machine from next door!

I have my own stop tap outside but when next door use their washer or toilet my pipes knock and i can hear water rushing through the pipework. (the house is a semi built in the 50's)

so how do i stop this?

could i use a shock arrestor or maybe a one-way valve?

i know i need to resecure my pipework but as yet none of my taps/appliances cause a knock.
