You may not think you want 3D, but if you can get your head around it, it's a real time saver - draw it once and then take your plan and elevations from the different views
This is exactly what I found with sketchup. Back in the day I used Visio, and every time I changed something I'd need to make the change 5+ times in each plan and elevation.
Now I have a single 3d model in sketchup, so I can move a wall, click update, and the pdfs update too. The sketchup chaps have been pretty canny in drawing the 'free' line at the PDF export point.
