Certain alarms would have no problem with any power outage running on dry cell batteries for typically 18months minimum. I just changed the batteries on a system yesterday that had functioned for 27 months uninterupted. Ideal for empty properties where power supply is not certain or switched off.
Ideal for second homers worried about squatters.
In fact almost inexpensive enough to use as a temporary solution to situations like this.
Alarm as you know some people would not even consider using the sticky pads although to be fair they are useful for holding things in place while you drill the holes so not a total loss.
As for grading -
Graded systems are fine 99% of the time however in this case where the outage may be longer than the 12hrs nominal back up cover provided by a graded system there is a case as there is for all emty properties just requiring bells only to have a cheaper alternative. The best graded system in the world without power or a run down back up battery is as much use as a Ferrari with no petrol against a mini with a full tank.
Backups as you know have a time limit, grading increases those times and can be far longer than you think. As you said nominal, and that would be on what we class our lower grade.
I have never said the item your referring to has not got a place, I have always maintained people calling it a Ferrari when it is in fact a Mini is the issue.
