Planning permission to remove loads of ground from driveway???

Block paving will wear out quickly. I rarely see the combination of gravel with paving these days. It's either one or the other. Yes, the drill will certainly help you get on with a few jobs.

Undecided. Got 2 people coming over on Sat to have a look. And I spoke to a digger/grab loander guy.
First phase would be to level it off and put the sub base down. I'll then do the building work, which will involve many skips etc. so will hold off finishing the drive until after its all done.
If I run out of cash I'll get somebody to dump a ton of gravel on it and get to work with a rake, and buy a new broom to keep them off the pavement! I do like those resin drives. Not sure budget will stretch.

Digger man is here. After a 3800 quote to remove and sub base half the front, took a gamble and hired a digger guy who is charging £300 a day plus £300 per 20 tonne grab load. Hoping no more than £1200 to clear the lot (hopefully £900), then maybe another £1000 for type 1 sub base and labour .....

Tarmac hill gone.
Cost so far: £650
Next stage Monday, hopefully cost will be same, plus type 1 + £145 for membrane.
So, hoping for a total of about £2000 for 81m2 of sub base, about £25/m for clearance and type 1.

Starts again on Monday, so I'll update you then!

Ok, finished for now. I am a bit unhappy with the sub-base - looks more like builders waste recycled than Type 1, does this matter? I've picked out all the rubbish I can see, and removed any sharp edges pointing up that might puncture. Is it OK to gravel on top of this as it is? Cost wise:

Day 1
Digger £300
Tools £50
Grab 20 tonne £300

Day 2
Digger £300
Tools £50
Grab 20 tonne £380 (extra for tarmac in load)
£25/t crush, 20t = £500
Membrane 81 m2 = £145

Total £2025

That works out bank on £25/m for clearance and sub base. Is that good? I heard its £70-90/m for completed job.

We had a 2m wide entrance, now its 4m. Remaining wall looks OK. My plan is to block pave / cobble / sett the entrance with about 1m, then gravel the rest with, maybe red granite (which I hope will look nice and shift less). Thoughts?

Pics.

Yeah, all sorts of crap pulled out. Wacker plate was used.

Looks nicer from the opposite side of the road.
