Plumbing in new toilet

If you post before each stage I'm sure you will get loads of advice, probably better than trying to take in loads of info in one go

Sticky wrapping is possibly Denso Tape (Denso with an 'S' not a 'Z'!)
Wear gloves when dealing with it. It is the original 'Sticks Like Sh*t' but for a different purpose.

To all you helpful individuals who offered me some help and guidance many thanks; I have now completed the job and thought I ought to post my experience in case it helps anyone else.

Toilet first - after removing the toilet and waste pipe I was presented with a cast iron connector the advice i received here was to cut it back and insert the appropriate connector - I was wary of that as I felt there was a risk of the pipe breaking which would have necessitated complete removal so I bottled it and connected the appropriate connector into the cast iron pipe then coupled it up to the toilet with the appropriate connector. It leaked - not much but enough. Eventually I went to a specialist plumbing outlet and bought a Mccalpine cast to plastic adapter and matching toilet coupler. I installed them - all ok no leaks. these items replaced the B&Q items originally purchased!

Bath - lots of good advice to replace the lead waste pipe and that was what I wanted to do however I could not get at it as it disappeared into a void (downstairs bathroom) and I could not access it without dismantling half the bathroom. In the end I connected the bath trap to a 40mm flexi pipe and connected one end of this into a rubber fernco coupler the other end of the coupler went onto the lead waste pipe. Works a treat.

Again many thanks for all the helpful advice I have learnt a lot from the process and hope anyone else undertaking a similar task finds this helpful.
