My hot water and heating were not working today. When an engineer called he fixed the problem, apparently the header tank tap had been turned off. He found that both the header tank and feeder tank had overflow pipes on them but they were not attached. Should I do something urgently and what work is involved, how much will it cost. The tanks are at the back of the house in the loft. They have been like this for about eight years.

Why didn't he re-connect them whilst he was up there

Yes get them done straight away, you are living on borrowed time before your house gets wrecked with a tank overflowing.

He said it would need to be estimated for but did not seem overly concerned as it had been that way for eight years

As gas4you suggests get them done asap. In terms of price i would hate to hazard a guess but its a job that should not be too difficult because the pipework is already in place and just needs connecting.

When you say there not attached ,are the pipes that should be connected to them running to the outside missing ?

If so its not a major job to do.

A braw job for a sat morning shift.

Yes there are pipes fitted to the tank but just not attached to anything!!!!
What a bodger, how much do you think it will cost? I know I have to get it done but dont want to be ripped off.

Get a few guestimates then,

The majority of us are decent tradesmen a few bad apples in any trade

ask your neighbours to recomend someone

As for price dont know but as said should only be a hour or so to do and may be £20/ £50 for material

Dont know what the rate is for your area, but would get it done sooner rather than later

If you have a proper loft ladder and lighting then we would charge our standard diagnostic fee plus about £12 for the materials. Thats only in our primary operating area though.

Kwality Tony,

What is the purpose of this post?

Or that one?
I thought my question was self-explanatory, but clearly not.

I was asking why it was necessary to make a post that says no more than (a) someone else had already given the correct advice, (b) to decline to give an estimate of cost, and (c) to reflect the already-reached-conclusion that it wouldn't be difficult to do.

That's all.

posts are posts. right or wrong. your opinion, which (fortunatley) i dont give a t£ss about. wastes as much time as whatever youre fekkin on about.

AND NOW YOUVE GOT ME DOING IT.

ffs.

It wouldn't have wasted any time if everyone except for WelshMan had ignored it. I believe the apposite expression is "do the math".
