I believe highlighting can be of interest. Not for them, but for others.

People can hold these POV's. But there are ways to express feelings and opinions without swearing and hurling insults at each other.

I fully agree with you.
If only those resorting to vile abuse would realise that such abuse totally undermines their credibility.
It does nothing to further harmony, or understanding of each others' POV.
It exacerbates division in society.
It encourages and entrenches tribalism among proponents of opposing views.

A lot of horrible people support Tommy Robinson. Any "extreme" right wing party or politician will attract the hard core of violence lovers, football hooligans and Hitler obsessives that have been around for years; but that hard core is a relatively small group. Most of his fans are decent, hard working people. Some are even foreign born, ethnic minority, immigrant Britons.

He speaks for a lot of people in the country; certainly the working people of the north. It is extremely rare to find people with loony left bubble views up here, despite the government's persistent trying to bribe us all into being a loony left client state.

Loony lefties never address the issues Tommy talks about (usually the criminal activities of muslims*), and instead criticise Tommy himself. This is attacking the messenger and not the message.

By deduction then, if you are against Tommy Robinson, you are pro-mass immigration and the displacement of British people from their communities; you are pro-child rape, and you are pro - the absolute power of a corrupt government.

*Ooh, I said muslims; delete the thread.

DO be aware we have a left wing government and a left wing opposition. There is nothing right wing in mainstream politics, or in any pubic life any more. Today's "Tory" party would, 50 years ago, have appeared as the most extreme lunatic fringe. Under them we have police who protect criminals, an army that defends other countries, millions on state benefits, schools that teach anti-British history, Christianity diminished and ridiculed, large areas of our cities under foreign occupation, the smell of cannabis everywhere, our borders abandoned and undefended, and now our very existence as an independent country under threat. How conservative is all that?.

This "person" does not represent ANYTHING which has ANY place in our society.

If this site had ANY morality is would shut the vile little pool of pus down for good.

Ever heard of the idea "be the change you want to see in the world"? The change I want to see is that every time somebody vile like that sticks his head out and spews forth his poison he gets dumped on by 10s, 100s, 1000s of others. I want to see him feel that he is loathed by everybody.

Anyone who is appalled by the things he writes has a moral imperative to condemn him, forcefully, every single time he opens his disgusting mouth.

He hasn't asked people not to debate, he's asked them to do it without quite as many insults which end up getting decent threads locked.

But secure didn't ask people to refrain from using abuse to change others' opinion.
He asked if people could refrain from resorting to abuse (and as you say vile and disgusting comments) when they're expressing their opinion.
I hope I'm not reducing the discussion merely to semantics.

I think I've already suggested that it's pointless trying to change some people's opinion, because they simply don't care. They'll happily resort to all sorts of vile and disgusting behaviour in attempts to persuade others.
Sadly, some times it works and the gullible are easily led.

I think we can condemn the abusers forcefully, every time they open their mouth, but we can do it without resorting to their methods.

I can see how various political parties down the years and now have struggled to hold themselves together, with in-fighting, bickering and disagreements on all sorts of levels.

So I suppose it's no surprise that unaffiliated people struggle to hold a decent debate without swearing, insults and resorting to mention a certain B word at the drop of a hat, resulting in some decent threads with legs being locked left, right and centre, if you'll excuse the political pun.

But do you think we could try from now on?

I'd go even further, and suggest that throwing abuse reinforces the other's argument because you have either weakened your own or demonstrated that your argument has been rebutted.
