Pond Aerator Pump Protection

Thanks for your replies. Sorted. I'm using a 'plug in' (unfused!) 30mA RCD anyway as my consumer unit doesn't have a RCD.

Not uncommon rubbish instructions from device vendors.
My pond pumps came (last year) with instructions written when the 2005 notification rules were still in place - so incorrectly said things about the law regarding outside installations. They also said they must be hard-wired and not use a plug - which I suspect is another "what we think the law says" thing.

At 4W (or 10W for mine), it's going to be hard to find a fuse that will protect the motor - and in any case, if it blows then it's almost certain that the motor is already dead. So a 2A fuse will be just fine, and the plug-in RCD will be too as long as it is suitably protected from weather.

Maybe it was intended for the Welsh market :)

Kind Regards, John
